I am pretty sure I understand it all, but I have a couple quick questions before I drop some dough on an SAFC.

1. For an AFC hack on a d16y8, would an SAFC II work, but just not let me control vtec engagement? Also, how important is controlling the vtec engagement?
2. Do I need the wiring harness? The one I might buy has a harness for an RX-7. Could I just hardwire it in??

 

Why in the hell would you want to put an rx7 wiring harness in it?

 

That is what I am asking, can I just hardwire it in, or is it completely incompatible?? I can get a really good deal on it, so I am willing to do a little extra soldering and wire splicing to make it work.

 

Oh I see what your saying, well I'm assuming you already have a wire harness in your car. If you do then just find an SAFC seperate from any wiring harness and just hook it up to the one already on your car. Besides you are not going to be able to plug an rx7 wire harness into a d16y8 ECU.

the difference between safc and vafc is vtec control, do you want to have the ability to chenge where vtec kicks in and out, its up to you....

yes you can wire the afc directly into your harness, just make sure u get a manual so you know which wires are which.

I knew that Vafc could control vtec engagement, I guess I should have been more clear, how important is that in making maximum power? I have read about people playing around with it and losing power, but that was all on n/a honda's, so I didn't know if it made much of a difference with turbo'd cars.

 

What 'great deal' are you getting this for?

These days, AFC Hack is the past my friend...chipped ECU is much easier (no hacking up your wiring) and the right way to control fuel and spark and VTEC points.

 

$120 from a buddy in my home town.

Anyway, I am OBD2, and don't want to convert and do all that stuff. I know it is better, but after doing my research I feel that the AFC is the way to go for me, especially with my budget, and resources.
