Default back purging mandatory?

i want to use ss to make a mani but i heard that i need to back purge with argon to weld it(requires a setup to fill inside the tubes to be welded with argon ). i say...........---- all that, do it hmt style. but on the other hand and can't have my ---- cracking like a ssautoshit mani. any input is appreciated

Only if it's stainless, obviously. Even then, I've seen many people not backpurge with no problems.

I have begun to suspect that the SSAC manifolds are either welded with low quality metal or filler...or maybe filler that's not compatible with the base metal...cause not purging shouldn't cause as many problems as they seem to have.

They brag about having a lifetime warranty. Anybody ever sent one back for repair? I'd be afraid that if I sent my ---- to China for repair that I'd never get it back.

i'd say back purging isn't nescassary for a log mani or a short tubular manifold because you don't need full penetration on your welds. but i'd recommend it for something like a top mount or ramhorn style manifold as there are a lot more break points and a lot more weight. if i get a chance i'll post up my back purge setup later with a small writeup.

yea i'd like to see that. i have an idea of a nice setup but its just seems like a waste of gas, unless of course like you said when doing a top mount with all the stress points it would help. im gonna start takin a stab at some manis and see how then come out

Im sure if you did the excuse would be it feel off the boat goin back to china and never recieve anything in return. The material is very thin, guy I knew bought one and brought it over he was so excited I couldnt stop laughing at his choice,120 shipped for a manifold I guess you know what your getting though. Sad how just a few companies corrupt the market with crap and then the whole scene gets a bad name but its shiny and people like shiny.

very wrong

back purge with stainless, and u might not see the difference but theres a difference in strength, I have seen the differnce between a stainless tube weold with and without backpurge, sometimes its visible on the inside weld
