i tried to get direct x from the microsoft website.. it told me authentication failed.. so i ran windows update.. put that in the browser of the windows update.. hit enter.. then went to the browser of the microsoft direct x site.. hit download.. authentication bypassed..

dirext x 9 downloaded and installed..

then i went back and updated lots more ----
