Default 90 Integra front brakes on my 89 hatchback...

Well i've been swapping around brake parts on the front of my hatch all weekend long, just finished up my disc rear conversion, and for ***** and giggles wanted to see if i could toss my 90 integra front brakes on the front of my car. Well, so far i can see from bolting on the calipers with a set of si slotted rotors i have that the brakes will physicly bolt on, but when i tighten the screws up for the rotor, it locks against the frame that holds the caliper. I'm almost tempted to try and throw some heavy duty washers behind the rotor to bring it out a bit so it won't lock up, but that will only bump my wheel out more and probably put too much strain on the caliper and rotor because it probably won't be centered properly. Anybody even tried anything with this before? I know i can use civic ex brake parts, but i'm kinda broke after the holidays here and you don't find ex civics in the junkyards around me either.

That's what i figured too, which is why i'm tryin to find out a better way to do this. Tomorrow i'm going to check out some integra rotors and see if they are offset out a little bit farther than the civic's. Originally the plan was to get the Integra caliper/Golf GTI rotor conversion kit from fast-brakes for around 200 beans, but that's 2 bills that i don't have right now. Would be nice to have an 11 inch rotor though. If I can't figure out anything on this i guess i'll just be swapping the Si front brakes over instead, not that they would make too much of a difference over stocks.

It's an 89 hatchback dx that will shortly be getting a ls swap. I have stock dx spindles, as well as some from a 91 crx si, but from what i've seen so far they are both the same piece. What i'm trying to do is put the larger front brakes from a 90 LS Integra onto the front of my hatchback...sort of like a big-brake upgrade on the cheap, hmt style. I just picked up a stock rotor for a LS, and backspacing is the same as the stock civic dx rotor. Only major difference is the rotor itself is larger (about 1/2 or so) than the dx rotor, and the calipers are huge in comparison to the stock dx calipers. The problem itself lies in the mount that the caliper attaches to...when compared to the dx and Si mount, it's about 1/8th of an inch thicker, therefore when you bolt it on and tighten down the rotor, the rotor locks against the bracket because of the extra thickness. I could mill the LS bracket down to the same thickness as the dx bracket and it should fit no problem, i was just looking to see if there was an easier alternative.

Well i did some reading up on Honda-tech (i know...they suck) and everyone that mentioned doing this swap said they used the integra spindles...but they also mentioned that they had bad camber and toe in problems after that, and some ended up just swapping back to stock. I think i'm going to mill them up and see what happens. If it doesn't work out, no biggie...got the calipers for $10, and i can still slap the Si brakes on (which are a hair larger than the dx).

No, the problem that i've read is it ends up adding positive camber because the shock mount point is in closer to the chassis. But it doesn't matter...i milled down the bracket and it fits on beautifully. Only downside is that i have to use the Si rotor, but that's no biggy either..plus it's slotted and cross-drilled. The size difference in the caliper pistons is monstrous...stock is around 2", the integra is at least 3". The rotor clears perfectly and i'm going to swap out the stock proportioning valve for an integra unit, although i'm half tempted to order an adjustable unit because i do want to run the car on track (road course, not 1/4 mile you wimps ) and i'd like to be able to adjust it to suit driving conditions. Maybe if i have some time i'll take some pics, and maybe even do a write-up on it in the spring when i get to test it...if it all works out.

Well take it from some one who has done it.

It worked for me. With a reqular drop with springs I still had to adjust my camber out. People say that it causes the car to run more postitive but I never noticed it. I still had to ajust and grind my upper a-arms to clear because I had to push them out so far.

Pics with 15" Rims. My Calipers are shaved to fit my 13" Slicks which normally can't be done with TEG Brakes.
