Default H22 dist cap issue

ok so i have a H22 in my hatch right now, the other day i went to the parts store lookin to do a tune up and realized that they dont have a distributor cap that'll work... all the ones they have are external coil types where as mine is an internal.. right now its running off of a B-series cap and it works alright but it has a bouncing idle/rev untill about 1300 or so probably (no tach, doin it by ear)

so my question is, am i going to have to buy a whole new distibutor setup from a USDM H22 and swap it over, pay out the *** for a stupid jdm cap, or can i keep useing the B-series cap without any damage to the motor or anything else?

also does anyone with an H22 swap know what im talkin about with the bouncy idle/rev?

I dont think the cap is your prob. if your cap was bad you would have some sort or missfire. is the only prob the idle up/down? if thats the case id check the IACV and makes sure the coolant dosent have any air pockets.

i know there arent any air pockets.. but how would air pockets in the coolant mess with my idle?

plus do you think i could get away with useing the B-series cap on it without damageing anything since i cant find one with an internal coil elsewhere?

the b-series cap will be fine. if theirs air pockets in the coolant the IACV will make your car idle up and down.

Pretty sure thats what I ran on my ex-gf's h22.. was just a b-series internal dizzy cap. Works just fine. as far as your idle it very well could be your iacv, check for air pockets as 88dx said, or maybe the FIT valve is sticking? do all h22's even have those?

well i know it isnt air pockets, i've already checked that, plus my last motor did the same thing with the idle before i blew it and installed this one

it has a really low set idle, and up untill about 1500 or so it stutters and will fluxiute (sp?) if i let it sit there.. driveing its fine and you dont even notice it

btw thx for the answer about the cap, was getting semi paranoid about that and imagineing my motor blowin with my luck, lol

hmm, I'd definatly check your FIT Valve then, over time these things get loosened up and can cause some serious idle problems, its very easy to do. Its underneith your throttle body, it has 2 coolant lines going to it, and I think a few 10mm bolts holding it in place. I normally adjust it in the car, but its easier taking it out.
