Default Dist. King dist didnt work...

My car ct off on me the other day while going down the highway. This has happened before. It was teh ignitor. I was hoping it might be th ecoild so I replaced it before anythign drastic, and it didnt chagne anything..(when it was cold it would start and run to operating temp and cut off. Could start it back up and it would run for about 20 seconds). I returned the coil, and bought myself a New distributor from Dist. King since the cost of a brand new one is about the same cost as buying all that crap brand new...

So the other day when it got here, I installed it (even though it was lik 20 degrees outside. Went to start it, it kinda fired for a second and completely stopped. Now it makes a funny noise like its not turning over at all. kinda like a whining, trying to start noise. kinda like the valves are opening at the wrong time causing no compression. I checked for spark (all 4 plugs have spark) and the fuel pump is still pressurizing the system.

any ideas? If it is my timing how the hell did it jump out of tie so bad? The dist will only go on in one position so its on right. I want to drive my car again asap. I'm stuck driving this 89 civic 4dr with blown shocks and stock as hell. PLEASE HELP!!!

TIA!
Chris

I would definitly check your timing. Just recently I changed my spark plug wires and spark plugs. I jumped into the car and tryed starting it and it would not start. Ended up changing the dist. cap. and still nothing. I was getting spark and fuel.I then messed with the timing and retarded it all the way back and it fired up really rough (jumped a couple of teeth) Now the timing belt broke. So I have to fix that. Definitly check your timing if it starts when you mess with it than it jumped a tooth.

the old dizzy would start the car while it was messed up, but once I put the new one on, neither work. I'll mess with the timing wednesday(my day off work)if it isnt below 40 outside.

The engine is getting spark with the enw distributor so I dont see how anything could be shorted out

ahhh,it is the timing.that "whinning" noise is the give away.make sure you are on the compression side when setting the timing.

ok I fixed it today. It was the timing. I dont understand how the timing could jump some teeth by simply changing the distribtor

It smoked for a while when I started it up (heavily, but it has calmed down to a barely smoke. I'll do a compression test later to make sure my rings are good. Keep your fingers crossed for me guys!

Im kinda nervous about driving her today
