My miller keeps crowsnesting ..
I'm using a millermatic 135 and for some reason the wire keeps binding up at the spool and wheel. I just get a big mess of ----, ive tried different tensions, ive tried different spool tensions ect. I duno wtf to do with it, i want to smash it. Its like the second it starts welding the wirefeed gets stuck in the gun ... My 20 year old welder never did this, this unit is brand new.
Also when welding with SS wire doing manifolds, should i carry alot of heat through? Like once it glows, i get aq puddle how long should i keep this bead going? Any tips on mig'n with SS wire.
waht id do is i would cut the wire and rerun it through, it would work for a bit then be fine. I found that as i fed the wire through it would bind at the gun, but then would come out fine. I've tried new tips but nothing, its a possibility that the tip is two small, but i highly doubt it cause it goes through fine. As far as the roller is concerned im unsure, its the one that came with it. I'm having trouble with the mig wire that came with the machine, stock wire, stock tips stock rollers. I've tried messing with the feed preloads, ive moved the internal bit by the roller as close to the roller as possible, i figured maybe it would kink less if it had less room to flex. I duno wtf the issue is but it makes me furious, cause i weld for 2seconds, then it binds then i have to spend 10min re feeding the wire through ... i hate this pos welder
As far as Ss wire, i havent used it yet. For instance my turbo manifold, i have the t's butted up, how slow should i be welding and how much should i let the metal heat up>? IT gets red as u move like anything, when i weld mild steel (mig wire not SS) like to practice on i get nice fat smooth beads. I remember reading high heat low wire speed, does this mean i go real slow and let the puddle build, but wont this add to much heat and warp it? Or is this a practice on scrap till u get a good setting deal.

Re: My miller keeps crowsnesting ..
Are you sure you have a tip on the gun? I know this is kinda obvious, but when I first fired up my flux core migger I forgot to put a little copper tip in the gun and only put the bigger outter tip on. The wire kept melting itself to the inside of the gun, eventually pulling out some of the coil that conducts to the wire from inside the gun's cord. I felt stupid, like I broke my welder, but it still works.

Nope its not that , i swear theirs a kink in it or something. when i feed the wire through it catches towards the gun, but once its fed throught the nozzle its fine. Then i go weld and it stops ..

Re: My miller keeps crowsnesting ..
my friends welder did the same thing, the spool stopped. the welder sat over the winter and the only thing that we could think of is that it had some corrotion/oxidation maybe on the wire.
a new spool did the trick though.

Re: My miller keeps crowsnesting ..
We used to get this all the time with our Miller 550v Welder for aluminum at work. Using a Push/Pull setup. 85% of the time it was the liner in the lead.
Could be a kink in it, could be dirt, could be anything. Did you perhaps ran the lead over, twist is or ravled it up funny. Some times we could soak them in acetone because of junk in them and that would fix it.
