Default self polishing question

I'm building my engine up right now and i'm looking at my crnak cap jornals and rod journals and they have microscopic cross hatches on them. When you place your finger on the journals, they are smooth, but they can be smoother. Could i lightly sand and polish it up with some fine, fine sandpaper before i put the new bearings on them. I'm a DIYer and i don't want to send it to a shop if i have to.

Now are you talking about the Main caps and Rod caps? or the actual journals on the crank? either or I dont think I'd ---- with them. The only time I ever clean up the journals is if they look like ---- and if in that case you may just want to get the crankshaft micropolished.
