Tranny is apart. Need help
I just took apart my old Si tranny and I'm trying to pull the 5th gear components out I have already pulled the shift forks, counter shaft, and mainshafts out with no problem, but now I can't get the components off the countershaft. The mainshaft was easy; the parts came right off the top (5th gear was closest to the top). Now I need to get the 5th gear counter off the counter shaft but I cannot budge anything on it at all. I pulled the bearing from the top with a lot of work, but now there's another unusual bearing. My manuals are not worth even reading because they are dealing with another tranny and doesn't compare.
My whole objective is to swap the 5th gear into my ZC tranny when I do my clutch job. The Si 5th gear with the ZC final drive makes for excellent highway crusing (~2600 @ 60mph). My ZC tranny is geared terrible for the highway.
How the heck does this counterhsaft come apart? I'll probably get a shop to deal with it; it shouldn't cost much seeing I have the tranny already taken apart.

put on heavy leather work gloves.............
remove lock nut, hold the gear cluster between 3rd and 4th gear.
Hold 2-3 inches off the work bench, hammer on the shaft, all will slide off.
Use a deadblow hammer or a soft face hammer.

MR_DR_PEP this is gonna be a total NOOB question but i never went inside a tranny.... is the final drive gear the same gear that is on the diff assembly?
.....and if not, you should sell me that si diff so i can put it in my ZC

Thanks for the quick response. I will work on it friday.
Crx304, the final drive is the final gear on the end of the countershaft. Power comes in through the mainshaft, mainshaft into countershaft (final drive is the gear on the end of the countershaft), and then into the differential. I'm guessing you would need the Si countershaft (with ZC gears on it), and the Si differential. Ask Mistabone, he knows
BTW, I personally would NEVER use the Si final drive in a ZC tranny unless it was a drag/race car. I'm happy with the ZC tranny except for the short 5th gear.

Oh wow. All the parts came off extremely easy. I just grabbed it bare-handed and dropped it on a board and everything came right off.
Crx304, at this point I'm not willing to sell it because I'm not sure what I plan to do with it. I might rebuild the tranny and put another 5th gear in it and sell it... I'm not sure yet. I will PM you if my plans change since you were the first to ask. Make me an offer and I will consider it.
