Default BTM problem - car stalls at 3500rpm

There was no problem with car until i just have installed an MSD BTM (iso retarding at distributor). But now, if i set the BTM to 1 degree with the **** engine completely stops revving at 3500rpm. If i set it back to 0, car works fine.

Do you think i add too much fuel for retarded ignition? I'm using SMC and 390cc -34% at 3500rpm (according to the FAQ it should be ok). I tried to set it to -36% as well and it solved my problem a bit, but still climbs very very slowly over 3500rpm. Similar effect when climbing to a mountain. This is the reason i think there is too much fuel added for MSD retarded ignition.

B16A2, t3/T4B, 8-9psi, 390cc DSM injectors.

maybe too lean.. 3500 is probably where boost kicks in.. add fuel. -30% ?

I tried that too. Nothing. I even set it very lean at -38% just to see if i hear pinging or detonation. But no pinging either! And my lame cheap Faze A/F meter shows rich A/F ratio even at -38%.

I attempted to run in part throttle boost (that i do very rare due to AFC) and car ran fine.

Is it possible the BTM is not working during boost? (it gives sign for my plugs, my engine idles smooth and part throttle is all right)

How can i check if it retards timing and how much it is exactly?

I got a good idea from a friend. SMC reads rpm signal from ICM wire tapped before ECU and it may read the modified signal that fouls it. He suggest wire it to engine bay and to tap it before it goes to MSD BTM. Do you think this can be the reason?

when i had my btm it was below half.
you have it set to 1 degree, which is for each lb. of boost.
so in your case it is retarding 8-9 degrees.

I have #5462 MSD BTM, that (according to the manual) retards timing between 1-3degrees/psi and not 0-3degrees as other BTM do.

ya that's the same one i had. if it was set near 1, it would stumble all over the place.
i switched to uberdata (thanks donald!), so i didn't need the btm anymore.

your charge piping/bov is true hmt!

So you say #5462 accepts less than 1degree/psi retarding, too.
