ok, my friends Eclipse GST's crank was having some problems, so we go the whole engine remachined and we got some new pistons, well my friend starting puting piston one in and when i got there the whole side of the cylnder has a scratch down it and you can feel it with your finger, we put pistons 2,3 and 4 in without a problem, do you think cylnder 1 is fucked now?

 

it wont seal.

sounds like the maching is wrong or u didnt lube the walls.

 

it's probably not that big, you can hone it a little just to make it smooth. it's maybe half a hair thick.

 

its not the machning, my friend bent the botton piston ring a little and whne he was puting it in, it was scratching the side its not all that deep but you can feel it, he called the machine shop and they told him to get some sand paper and smooth it out again, but i was thinking that if we did that it would make the walls uneven?

thats what were doing right now, had to pay $30 bucks for the ------- hone though, thanks guys.

 

the piston rings will wear out to the shape of the cylinder where the scratch was and it'll work out good.
