i bought my car like 6 months ago from a guy who was selling this hatch for his son that moved to hawaii. and i remember when we were talking before i bougth the car he said his son did something to the motor to make it faster. he didnt know ---- about this car so i figured he was talking about the intake. but anyways, my car has a shitty idle but is faster than any other stock or hatch with the same mods as mine. is there any way to tell by just loooking with the valve cover off? so i was thinkin maybe a cam would make the idle shitty? when i shift into 2nd just normal driving my car backfires somewhat and also when my car is idling the exhaust makes a popping noise and when i hold the throttle at a steady speed in like 1st 2nd and 3rd it does it. can anyone help me out? and i changed the plugs rotor car and wires and it still does it

do a compression and/or leak down test.

 

you could kinda check if it has a mean came in it by doing a vacuum test

 

well, what is a "nasty cam" and is it good or bad? and where i would i go to get those things checked or tested? and how much would they cost?

 

i am going to be boosting very soon so is this bad or ok?

 

depends, most turbos like high lift, short duration cams, it keeps the exhaust velocity up. if it is a long duration, high lift cam, which it sounds like it is, im not sure. wont be the optimal setup for boost.
