Default T3 turbo questions

i just got a garrett t3 turbo and took the compressor housing apart to polish it b4 i install it on my car. i noticed some oil smeared on the inside of the housing. it was around the fins on the part im polishing. im not sure if this is normal or not. this is the first turbo ive takin apart. the shaft has pretty much no play at all. when i spin the shaft it spins easily but stops quickly.. prolly make 4 or so revs b4 it stops. if anyones seen this b4 let me know so i can go ahead and finish up my install.

I think the only way you are going to find out if its good or not, is going to be bolting it up, and giving it some oil pressure.

I just got an intercooler from a '88 Saab today, clean and small intercooler, but a little oil in it. Is it normal to see a little oil in it? The first one I got was big as an radiator, oil in it as well.

i had it tested today at a shop that rebuilds turbos. the guy said it had the normal garrett play in the shaft. the fins dont come close to hitting anything when its spinning and there was no oil leaking from it. He said it was ok as long as i took care of it and i should keep an eye on it and check it out every month or so to see how its doin. if it gets worse than what it is now then i should rebuild it. so ill wait till i get the rest of my parts and see how it performs.

Saabs Volvos and some other factory turbo cars vent the valve cover to the inlet side of the turbo, so the oil you see could have come from engine blow by, this goes for the intercooler as well.
