Ecu Control quick question

I'm running a stock rom modified by another program but the other program doesn't have data logging like ecu control, so i'm trying to get ecu control to log the data. Will ecu control work on any rom? or is there specific code in the roms (on the rom page, ecucontrol.com) that allow ecu control to work?
