Default AFC Hack and 440s

I have already bought a safc and wrx 440s for my protege, and I just have a couple of questions. I have read up on the afc hack and I know it isn't the best solution for tuning, but there is nothing better for my car, except maybe a fmu

How much will the ignition be changed when you change the fuel timing? I am hoping i dont have to buy a btm to retard the timing, but of course I don't want to run really advanced timing on a turbo'd engine. I've seen many people run a safc without a btm, so what gives? Is there any other way to retard the timing without running the btm?

im not a hundred percent positive but i dont think the afc does timing at all. you will need a btm to mess with timing. most people manually advance the timing with the dizzy when they use the afc, which is not a good thing at all and which is why most afc controlled cars blow up with out a timing controller

Yeah I know that the afc doesn't do ignition timing, but I was just wondering if you could go without running a btm controller. I was hoping I wasn't going to have to buy one, but I might as well if I want my car to last a little while.

well if you are running enough boost to make you need 440s you need some sort of timing controller.

the afc advances the hell out of the timing because the engine thinks its at a lower amout of load than it really is this is very apparent in vac and low boost where you have the afc cranked way back. you can try retarding the timing at your dizzy but that just kills power everyplace.

from what i researched online, if you dont have ignition management, then you retard timing on you dizzy anywhere frm 3-5degrees and go from there.

But you can run a safc w/o a btm, just more time and precautions must be taking when you do ur tune.
