Hi all. I used to troll this forum incessantly 12 or 13 years ago, but never created an account or posted. Finally getting to a point in my life where I want to build my first turbo setup for real and stop watching from the sidelines. My car is a 2005 Honda Accord coupe with J30 v6, with 105k miles. Itís my daily in winter, but I ride my 08 naked Kawasaki 650 Ninja every day if the morning temp is over 30 degrees. Iíve collected turbo kit parts and pieces over the years, just to turn around and resell. Iíve just picked up a great condition used Toyota CT26 recently. Iím a machinist and welder/fabricator by profession so making my own parts is kinda my thing. My only hang up with the thinking about the Accord is the ecu and tuning, itís not like chipping a P28 haha. Pretty much the only piggyback option I have is VAFC2, theyíve gotten reasonable on the used market. The only other way to tune a J30 is a standalone and that is way above my skill level (and price range) the good thing about my J30 is the exhausts exit each head as a single large rectangular port, front and rear, so I just need to find a reasonable way to collect the two pipes to a turbo flange, most J series guys put the snail right where the factory put the battery, and relocate battery to trunk, so Iíll likely go that route. No idea yet how I want to arrange a charge cooler, a water/air setup would definitely be best for minimal charge piping and available space (considering the turbo and TB will be like 8Ē apart) but Iím cheap, and very hands-on so I might find a small air/air cooler and make it into a water/air myself by just welding or soldering plates to the air path and adding a bung on each side haha. I know homemade water/air coolers arenít the most efficient but thatís because guys try to make the water go thru the charge path of the fins, rather than having the water pass thru the ambient side... Iím not looking to push 20 psi thru my block, itís already a great performing car, just want to toy with 5-8psi to get it from the stock ~250 hp to 300-325. Anybody on here experienced with setting up a VAFC2 to control a low boost setup? Anyway thanks for the add and I look forward to hearing othersí thoughts on my project.
