i just put a y8 head on my built y7 block. its a pretty straight forward thing. well worth it

But what about software? Doesn't the y8 need a different ECU over the y7?

no you coud use a rpm switch or vafc

Pardon my ignorance hotrex, but wtf is a VAFC? :-\ And does anyone know how much $$$ an rpm switch and/or VAFC goes for?

read read read... there are a lot of good answers out there for you... just keep reading and you'll be smarter soon... don't do the head swap, just save for turbo... you'll be happier.

rpm switch = about $45 no adjustability, set rpm
vafc = $200+ as much adjustment as you want, plus can be used for turbo fuel management in conjunction w/ larger injectors.

they both will control vtec if you have vtec but are using a non vtec ecu.
