Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
Hi everyone!
I am new to this forum but I am hoping to get some good advice on what to do with my car. 97 CX H/B, D16Y7... S_T_O_C_K One of the most popular upgrades seems to be a y8 or z6 vtec head swap. Is it worth the money? Before I get flamed for being a stoopid n00b, here is/are my plan(s). My goal is turbo'd 200whp on stock bottom end. Will it be cheaper to achieve this by first swapping in a y8/z6 head and then going turbo OR just concentrate on boosting my d16y7 till 200whp arrives? Thx in advance! |
Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
stoopid nooob!! >:(
naw just playing! theres alot of things you can do!if you want to go turbo and hit 200whp id say stick with your current engine and BOOST THAT BITCH!! you can do the head swap and boost but controlling detonation becomes a big issue.(not good with noobs!) readevery topic in this forum and then make your desicison.by the time you finish youll be a turbo genius. welcome to HMT! |

Yo renr, THANKS ;D
Those dudes on "that other forum" haven't even given me the time of day >:( Can anyone explain why they have their compressor on the driver side? Most of the kits out there (edelbrock, greddy) always have their compressor on the passenger side of the of the exhaust housing |

Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
I want to keep my A/C
So I guess that makes me a stoopid n00by biatch ;D |
Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
no... that just means you need to go spend $2k on a greddy kit ;D
|
Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
or just buy a manifold that allows you to keep your A/C. :-\

Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
---- a/c!! my turbo is mounted with the compressor on the driver side and it gives me way more room to route the downpipe. either way, mine still looks clean :P

Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
arent the cx heads 8 valve slow asses?
id rather get a 16 valve head vtec or not |
Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
i just put a y8 head on my built y7 block. its a pretty straight forward thing. well worth it
|
Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
But what about software? Doesn't the y8 need a different ECU over the y7?
|
Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
no you coud use a rpm switch or vafc
|
Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
Pardon my ignorance hotrex, but wtf is a VAFC? :-\ And does anyone know how much $$$ an rpm switch and/or VAFC goes for?
|
Re:Is y8/z6 headswap worth the time & $$$ ?
STOOPID N00BY BIATCH! U DON EVEN KNOW WTF A VAFC IS?!? GO AWAY LAME ASS RICER/WANNABE!
I just had to flame myself because I really don't know squat about engine tech ;D |

vafc = $200+ as much adjustment as you want, plus can be used for turbo fuel management in conjunction w/ larger injectors. they both will control vtec if you have vtec but are using a non vtec ecu. |
