dude...this is fucked up...well i washed my car....and next thing you know its sputtering in idle for a second...and then its fine...well it stopped sputtering...i just think it had to work all the water out of the engine there for a second cause of my bunk intake.

but....

i had to take my car home tonight early because the temp gauge would rise all the way right before redline...were talking like 1mm from red line....and then after like 10 seconds holding at that spot it would cool down at normal temp. and then bout 10 seconds later it would do the same....go up right before redline...and come back down...over and over again...my fans would kick on...both of them at that matter...but its like the thing would still get hot...do you think my thermostat is going out like its not letting coolant thru....maybe it is letting coolant into the engine and then it closes once the temp gauge shows its at regular temp and then the motor gets hot up close to red line and it opens the thermostat up again and then it cools down....do you think thats whats wrong people...---- i need help...auto stores are closed cause of the holiday. ppl...give me more options than just this one...you think the fans might be kicking on late...like they only turn on when it gets up to redline and then cools the coolant and then they shut off and then repeats itself over and over let me know

I have a massive overheating problem. I have repalced everything in the cooling system and I still overheat. The only thing I could tell you is check your fluid level and bleed it. Other than that I have no cure for your problem. I hate cars and everything that revolves around them right now. There is no reason why my car should be over heating, but it is.

Good luck to you. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread to see if there is anybody who knows of something to check that I haven't already.

lmfao...i just fixed the problem....the posts that are held in by the brackets on the radiator....well they broke...what happened is the radiator was touching my exhaust manifold...and it was causing the fluid to evaporate...well i used some coat hanger and strapped that baby down...it doesnt move no more...refilled the reserve bucket and filled the radiator and the beast runs fine now....but now i gotta wash my car cause i got oil spots on the fenders and bumper from leaving the oil cap off while the engine on...but its all good now...thanks

have you checked your water pump? i had somthing like that happene to me. it wasn't leaking any water out of the pump like it would if it went bad it juust stopped circulatting the water around. so i replaced it and it fixed it ;] so check the water pump good!

Dr. boost are you sure it really is overheating or is your gauge/sending unit on the fritz? check that. and water pump.

I was begining to think that, but I got it fixed. It's a long story, but it ended up being the radiator cap. For some reason certain Del Sol models used a higher pressure cap than my Civic. It was building up too much pressure and not letting the coolant circulate. Crazy stuff. I'm so glad it's fixed now. This poor motor has gone through some horrible things.
