Jeff, I tried to find a ball hone, but nobody had one. After some of the ---- I've seen you do you can't start getting technical with my hone job. :P

I'm not spending $100 on new bearings when the new ones look fine. They are either good, or not good.

A V8 friend of mine (that has been around more motors/race cars/ ect. than anyone I know told me that bearings are bearings and that all the hype the honda guys talk about is bullshit. Especially the one where "you should only use factory bearings in a honda". :P
you can have 50 years experience on a space shuttle and still not know how to scuba dive. just because some v8 head or some guy with a d-block in his background and a long beard said aftermarket bearings are better doesn't mean they are. jeff said he uses oem, so kyle will use oem, unless one of you guys gives me some actual evidence and not just opinions.

the guy never said aftermarket was BETTER. He said that bearings are bearings.
My y8 had federal mogul bearings, so there's your real life 4k miles worth of proof.

Oh, he's never been on the space shuttle, and astronauts don't scuba dive.

The reason most people use OEM honda bearings and I've read about a lot of pro's using oem honda bearings...is that you can get the exact one with the right clearance...aftermarket bearings only come in standard .25 and .50 over what if you need a different one to get the exact specs as the manual says??
block looks good stealth...yeah the hone looks like a Ghettofied straight hone job.
Over here a ball hone is like $90
I saw some on ebay go for 10-30 bucks..check them out.

I'll look there and see if I can find one. That spring one was like $22.

And with my old bearings, I got the .25 over and had the crankshaft cut down so that all of the tolerances were just were I wanted. The machine shop told me that was the "correct" way to do it when you're really getting into a build. The same could be achieved with the factory bearings, but all of those colors scare me.

it looks like you kept the hone pretty much still and not moving up and down to create cross hatches.
i have a z6 on a stand i have to do next. i might hit you up with some bearing questions.
good luck with the build steve

Nice post, although the 'features' the clevites claim to have are not unique to aftermarket bearings.
