Wondering about d15 vitatra

I am wondering if the Vitaras will fit in a d15b. I had heard that they couldn't but then someone posted on here saying it was done, no questions were answered about it so I assumed it was a lie. Has anyone heard about this?

yes they work fine in the d15b vtec. The stick up slightly but the clearance is okay.

A stock headgasket makes up for it no problem.

Just be careful if you deck the block.

you can't run them with a Y8 head......they will kiss the head, Z6/B7 head and they will be fine.

Or just have .020" taken off the pistons, a table top belt sander will work :)

The Y8 head is fine. With the stock headgasket there is enough clearance so they don't even rise above the headgasket surface.

tap tap tap...........

thats rod stretch making the piston knock on the head, pray you never have carbon build up.

compressed HG = .035-.037"
piston = .018-.020" above deck.

You have .020" to play with.

NOT ENOUGH esp. with flimpsy OEM rods.

Viagra pistons don't use stock rods though.

20 thou is plenty. Might get close if you are using aluminum rods.

Regardless, what does that have to do with the head being Y8 or Z6?

Y8 = closed chamber, piston will hit the quench pads.

the rest = open chamber, room in the chamber for the piston

Know wadda mean there Vern?

Attachment 26231

TT rods stretch also......

I put my vitara's and stock z6 pistons next to each other, the vitara's didnt seem to have any thicker ringlands at all, I didnt mic it but they almolst looked thinner.

look at the TOP ringland between the top compression ring and the piston top
