will my msd cap and coil i have waiting to put on take the place of the igniter? i dont know much about distributers, only that i have way too many problems with them (second one that went out on my zc since i swapped it 6 months ago) if you guys have any tips on intalling them also, that would be awesome. thanks. man, i love forums.

let me do some research for you... I remember along time ago a friend of mine said that I wouldnt need the ignitor, but I dont know if that is true or not..

thanks man, i cant seem to find anything, ive been tryin a while. honda-tech, ef-honda, crxconnection, etc. nothing. my buddy whos a honda tech said maybe, auto electrical place said maybe, some other place said maybe not. summit thought so, but wasnt sure. oh well.

i wish i could just skip finals and head home now. my dang school stays way too late in the year. i just wanna try to put it on and see. i miss my 90standard. she's a beaut.

The MSD ignition will not take the place of the ignitor unit in the distributor, rather it will take its trigger from the ignitor to fire the coil. I talked to MSD about this, and the trigger mechanism in the Honda distributor does not have a good enough signal to send to the MSD.

So, you do have the benefit of much better spark, without the benefit of removing the unreliablility of a stock Honda ignitor.

dammit. i'm gettin really sick of busted distributers. i can replace just the igniter, right? i think i heard that somewhere. anyone know where to find one? i guess i'll keep looking.

You can get the igniter from Honda/Acura. The are about $70 new, and are simple to install. I run a MSD 6al, MSD Cap, stock rotor, MSD coil mounted near the shock tower.

thanks for your help man. when i get home ill test that dist. to see if thats it for sure, i found a way of checking the ingniter. ill let you guys know how it works out.

Speaking of Ignitors JIM! you failed to mention that distributor you gave me didnt have one in it we had no spark after we installed the LS/Vtec, I popped the cap and didnt really notice anything, but then beau spotted your work.. You tucked all the ignitor wires back down the distributor and remounted the ignitor bracket. lol

Man, with all the stuff sitting around, i have no clue as to which has what. But come to think of it, the day that I met Beau at the track for the first race was when that distributor started acting up.
