WHy Centerforce Dual Friction Clutches SUck.
well i was looking at a few old pics i had stored on a backup disc and i found these pics. There about the time my centerforce clutch took a ----. Apparently it didnt like 4k RPM launches with boost, so it ended itself, i ran this clutch on a 50-75 shot of nitrous, for 3 months then on boost for about 6 months, then one late night after work i was going to race a cowoker in his s10, and when i launched, the wheels kept spinning, then the engine kept reving, but i wasnt going anywhere, it stank like burnt ----. I limped the car home, never reving past 3k or the clutch would slip out.
Pulled the tranny then the clutch and this is what i found.
The disc was wasted, the pressure plate toasted, and it tore the ---- out of the flywheel.
Needless to say i replaced it with a 6puck unsprung unit from mike at LSD and it was like night and day. This bitch would actually pull like a bastard at 15psi without slipping.
so in my honest opinion, centerforce clutches suck for imports, maybe theyre good for domestics? i dont know dont really care. total waste of 300$ or whatever they cost now.

Thats pretty bad, Not as bad as the clutch I just did for a friend on a 96 avenger. the material part of the disk completely broke off and exploded. the whole bell housing was full of "fluffy stuff" that I couldnt figure out what it was before I saw the disk. I'll try and put a pic up later tonight.

funny, I never had a problem with the USED one I got from Fowee.
7800 rpm clutch dumps on slicks with 75 shot.
Finally started slipping on a 3-4 power shift with 85 shot using 325 cc injectors, still went 13.40 @ 103 mph.
I used that clutch for another 2-3 years NA, then slipped in a Exedy OEM disc with the CF pressure plate. I ran that combo until last month.
I suspect you were riding the clutch out to limit wheelspin on street tires.
That would then be driver error

Ya but get an act and you can drive like you stole the damn thing without issues. My old clutch from like 6 years ago is in a turbo 12 sec car on 23 in slicks and doest slip a bit
That doesnt include the raping it got with me

i've heard a lot of horror stories from centerforce. My buddy had one on his celica with a boosted motor (3sgte with 5s tranny), and he actually broke the area around the hub and i believe it just separated

This came off an LS I sold to a guy locally. the funny thing is that it was my LS and the day before I pulled it I was still driving it and there was no signs of wear, no smell and no noise. It still pulled without slipping.
