What tranny is better for Mini Me Turbo! DX or EX/SI

What tranny is better for my setup I got??? Dx or Si/Ex???? I did a Mini Me turbo (D16Y7 w/98 Vtec head). I just got this turbo setup put in but not sure what tranny is better for it. HELP PLEASE......I have a 94 DX hatchback tranny, 96 Cx tranny and 93 Ex tranny from a coupe.

I just put in my y8 with a dx tranny and I love it. I cruise the streets in 5th sometimes, so I think the si may be overrated for street use. Dx seems more plentiful anyway.

I've ran into differences in the 88-89 Si trannies. I think there is a heavy duty version out there, the spline has one more tooth (something like that, been a while since I had one apart).

go with the lower geared tranny my j1 tranny owned my ls tranny

Re:What tranny is better for Mini Me Turbo! DX or EX/SI

not correct the 88 has 21 splines...88 and older tranny's have 21 splines the newer tranny's '89 up habe 20 splines.
get the tranny with 20 splines..all performance clutches ar made with 20 splines disks ACT makes clutches for the 21 splines, but they are a smaller diameter and hold less torque...cause the 21 splines tranny's came with smaller flywheels.

DX trannys are garbage, I personally like lower geared trannys, they accerate faster, get you better ET's 1/4 mile, and simply are funnier to drive. I've used just about every l3 tranny possible zc/hf/dx/si/std and my personal fav is the SI. The myth of longer gears being better since you will be boosting longer is garbage. Its more like, you fall out of your power band and put way more of a load on your engine.

I thought the 88 Si trannies were stronger then the '89+ si ones. I think the clutch sizes were the same, I ran into a pain in the ass replacing a clutch on an '89 crx si and force fit the wrong spline count clutch disc on there... I think I was stupiderer back then.

AMEN! Im so sick and tired of dumbasses telling me "you need to downgrade to the DX tranny because LONG GEARS ARE BETTER FOR TURBO!!@@!!@@" what they really mean to say is "im a ------- geek and spend all my time reading honda-tech and gaining theory on cars instead of actually building or driving a turbo car of my own!"

So is anyone going to back up or disprove my wacked theories on Si trannies?

l3 trannys are all -----, they have aluminum shift forks that break, and bearings that growl like a ------- mean bear at 100k miles.

I had a diff launch out of a case when I had a HMT A6.

so did my friend nate on his mini me, stock with a dx tranny

even though the tranny's are the same, just different final.

That makes a huge difference though. changing the FD lower from 4.2 to 3.8 is shitty. It changes all the gears longer. A DX and SI tranny are nothing alike driving on the road.

i like the dx better for highway driving but every trans i owned pops out of gear after a night of racing

Re:What tranny is better for Mini Me Turbo! DX or EX/SI

really the reason that some people say that longer gear tranny's are better for FI is cause of traction issues, a 400 hp crx is going to have a hard time getting traction and having really short gears just makes it harder. But in a car without really big traction issues of course a shorter gear tranny is better.

Re:What tranny is better for Mini Me Turbo! DX or EX/SI

if you do alot of highway cruising stay with the longer ratios, it should keep you low in the powerband while cruising so you aren't punching it into boost when you slightly mash the accelerator...correct or no? that's what I always thought about them...

Re:What tranny is better for Mini Me Turbo! DX or EX/SI

the SI owns the DX ;i just swapped out my DX 2 weeks ago for the SI; it feels like the SI 5th is the same as the DX 4th on the highway ;the SI pulls way harder than the DX ever did;in about 2 weeks; we'll se how better it does at the track

I have the dx and I already feel like I'm winding the ---- out of it just cruising at 90 on the freeway. :-\
