what the hell???
JDM D15B taking a dump.....pics:
http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../aab.sized.jpg here's what I found in the oil pan http://www.redpepperracing.com/galle.../aad.sized.jpg Motor was spotless on the outside, looked barely used. The coolant was perfect. I cleaned everything out, installed a new oil pickup and have been running it for 2 mos., it does seem to use a bit of oil. I run Mobil 1 but no smoke out the tailpipe. My concern is now I'm going to boost it, should I change the headgasket? Was that the problem? It doesn't seem to use any coolant. |
Re:what the hell???
um. that looks like poop. did you ---- in your engine? i say get a new motor. :P
|
Re:what the hell???
damn dude, i'd be pissed. clean that ---- up as good as you can, put it back together and put some of that sludge out ---- in, let it run for a few minutes, then drain it, i'd say repeat that a few time, unless you're tearing the whole motor down anyways, but i'd hate to see teh top end :-X

Re:what the hell???
is that like... chocolat? damn!
you're in brampton too.. i gotta see this! :D |
Re:what the hell???

Top end was fine, I have since put the motor in my car and run engine flush through it twice with 3 very quick oil changes. It runs great, but what would cause that oil?? Age? I assume the motor has sat for years because externally the motor was perfect, like new! There are no knocks although, like I said, it does seem to use oil, I don't see it out the tailpipe, but when I autoX'ed it a few people said it was smoking a bit out the tailpipe. |
Re:what the hell???
talk about your motor taking a ---- on ya, lol, taht is the weirdest thing i've ever seen in a motor.
|
Re:what the hell???
So whats involved in doing rings on a D-motor, can it be done in the car or do I have to pull the motor? The motor seems to use a fair bit of oil so I suspect it's the rings, how har are they to replace?
|
Re:what the hell???
pull the head, drop the pan and go to work
|
Re:what the hell???
all i can say is, bearings, rings, and head gasket
|
Re:what the hell???
Betting the oil pressure is ---- also.
|
Re:what the hell???
That is the first time that I have seen thickening that bad. I would atribute it to old oil, but it looks really light in color.
|
Re:what the hell???
Oil pressure seems fine, VTEC engages so I assume it's all good in there, I really should get a proper gauge though. The motor was never run with the oil like that. I changed it out, cleaned the pan thoroughly, swapped oil pickups and flushed it all out. The topend was perfect, none of that crap up there and the cam looked liek new, no scoring at all. I'm assuming that it sat in JDM land for a looooong time before being shipped. It runs perfect and once Weir racing finishes my flanges, I can get started on boosting the mofo. It does seem to consume a bit of oil, but I drive the piss out of it and all my D-series friends say that it will use a bit of Mobil 1 if driven hard. Who's to say? It's a very fun ride, boost should be a blast!

Re:what the hell???
wow, that sure did look like ----! It may have just sat for a long time. You said it runs great with no knocks and the top end is clean. I'd do a compression test and leakdown test to further check the condition of the engine.(rings, hg, valves etc.) If it checks out ok then boost that fucker!

Re:what the hell???
i prolly woulda hosed the fucker down with carb cleaner when the oil pan was off

Re:what the hell???
Since the top was clean, could it be water from the engine importer pressure cleaning the motor? When I got my B16A from hmotorsonline, the transmission had water mixed in it.

Re:what the hell???
Yeah, I guess thats a possibility. Never even considered it.
