yes i agree with the plastic razors and solvent, but not all headgaskets are made of metal, and for those, no amount of solvents lifts it off the block whether it be an iron block or aluminum, sometimes you gotta get rough, if your worried about bonding, lay down some copper sealing spray on both surfaces and your good to go.

Sandpaper& wire wheels of anykind =bad. Come'on guys this is aluminum!!! Headgasket surface needs to be as smooth and as flat as possible, this becomes even more important with a MHG because it cant "compensate" for imperfections on the head and block surfaces.

Only thing I've seen stick to aluminum heads with metal gaskets is the layer of sealer from the gasket (or copper spray ;D). Even a can of brake clean and a clean rag will take that off.
