Default welded diff, pointers

yeah im sick of my gay open diff and i dont feel like laying out some cash for an lsd. i have a spare blown hf tranny i can practice this on so thats not a big deal.

question is that is there any special way to go about this that works best? anyone have pics of a diff that they welded?

I'd say use a stick welder cause I'm not sure a fluxcore would give you enough penatration with welding those spider gears together. I don't think spools are that much.

YOu've got the 4 spider gears in the diff. Once your pull the diff out of the tranny, you can see it as it's right in the open. Weld the 4 gears all together.

street driven I hope not

Honestly I would shell out a couple bucks and have someone weld it unless you have a powerful welder

ok, I'm agaisnt welded diff's.......

but if your gonna do it, start it off right by inserting inner axle cups into the diff and then preheating to 300 degrees for one hour before starting to weld.

BTW, make sure to remove the bearings and speedo gear before preheating of welding, they won't survive.

Bump.

Any one here actully run a welded diff? I have a spare tranny with a blown diff, and my car is basicly a weekend/track car only.
Is it safe at highway speeds around corners? Or is there allways a wheel trying to break loose?
I dont care about parking.

safe at highway speeds yes cornering OH HELL NO!!!! if you value life DO NOT weld your diff unless its TRACK ONLY unless you like cornering with a heavy duty clunking noise and huge oversteer/understeer... this mod is a track only type of mod and i wouldnt advise it on the street for safety reasons
