Water temp????
I have a sunpro water temp. gauge and I cant figure where to put it except the radiator and the bottom....and it wont read the temp that way....if I stick it though the top while running it goes to 160 degrees
Is there any spots on the back of the block that i can put it? |
Re: Water temp????
Its a 1st gen B16a
|
Re: Water temp????
i always just tapped into a water line if its a mechanical unit.
|
Re: Water temp????
tapped into a water line??
can you give me any pointers on where?? i may be overlookin the simple ---- here ::) |
Re: Water temp????
um a water hose that your not using like for the heater core etc
|
Re: Water temp????
I just removed the sensor for the stock temp gauge and put the new sender there. Or if you want to keep the stock one working you could probably T into that spot on the head.

Iunno why it wont work on the bottom of the radiator.....
theres a bung there where you can drain it....and the sensor thingy screws right in there..... it just doesnt read the tempature doen there |
Re: Water temp????
Im using my heater hoses.....isnt the tempature sensor on the back of the block?? the 2 little prongs that stick out....or the single one??
|

Re: Water temp????
Yeah i jus found that out....and none of the damn fittings will fit in there.....
im trying to think of something else......any ideas how i can rig something up? |

Re: Water temp????
Ok i fixed it it goes at the bottom of the radiator in that bleed screw thingy, but something dont seem right....I let the car idle for 15 min....at first the top get really ------ hott.like steam hott.....and the bottom of the radiator is cold.....then after 10min the bottom gets hott....and the temp gauge goes to 195 degrees......is that good or bad?
It might be my thermostat opening, but i dont know at that tempatue....and to top all of it off my fan doesnt work....but ill rig a swith to that |
Re: Water temp????
160-180 is normal temps
anything over 180 is no bueno |
Re: Water temp????
soits prolly jus cause the fan aint workin.....i hope so.....
either that or the thermostat...right? |
Re: Water temp????
180-195 is normal
lucky to hit 170 in the winter....... |

Re: Water temp????
And during 110+desert summers never went above 180. Only times they went up a little was during traffic in vegas
|
Re: Water temp????
might wanna check your setup, the gauge is reading low.......unless your running a low temp T Stat.

low temp t stat fan switched to ignition never turns off. Car starts its on |
Re: Water temp????
Coolant temp must be measured AFTER it exits the head. That reflects an accurate temperature of the motor. Temp prior indicates how well the radiator is transferring energy in the form of heat. Come on people, it's not rocket science. The pic Bone posted up shows the best location. Or you can tap the head nearby the OEM sensor. Heater hoses will only work if the coolant is allowed to flow into the heater core meaning the temp slider is all the way open. Otherwise it will be inaccurate. |

No need to "break" the ecu code. Look at the advanced tables in CROME. You can adjust the ECT Fuel Compensation there. |
Re: Water temp????
I've not gotten into ECU coding, I have Blundar for that.
Dave does the tuning, Ryan does the porting, I build the trannys, Joe'e helps with the motor building and swapping. Does the ECT Fuel comp also alter the timing tables? I know from talking with someone of great knowledge the ECU doesn't allow full timing maps until 165-170...... |
Re: Water temp????
No it's Fuel Comp only, but there is alsoa seperate ECT Ignition Comp table. |
Re: Water temp????
guess I need to get cracking because next motor will be running on pump E85 which burns cooler.

I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you have a functioning thermostat, it would be mostly impossible for it go any lower than the thermostat temp. It just means that you won't need as much radiator capacity as an engine that burns hotter. |
Re: Water temp????
Have you ever ran a alky motor?
On a cool night??????? I rest my case. Building heat into the motor will be a PITA. |

Re: Water temp????
Also, Chris, your sender was after the radiator if I remember correctly, and that gauge will naturally show a cooler reading. My crx, as the water pump is going out, builds heat up to the 200* mark after a long 4th gear ripper. As you get out of the throttle it comes back to about 192ish and will rest there as you cruise. My reading is from using the tunertoys block fitting for the mechanical water temp gauge.
|
Re: Water temp????
car has to get to operating them before the gauge start reading. because the thermostat is closed.

Incorrect. Coolant is always flowing past the temp sensor because of the coolant bypass from the head through the intake manifold back to the water pipe. |
Re: Water temp????
In the stock position not in the lower radiator hose.
|

There is no "SENSOR" in the thermostat housing. That is called a "SWITCH". It is a normally open switch that is used to turn on the fan when the radiator is not removing enough heat from the system. The OEM position is in the head. Coolant flows through the head and through the bypass while the thermostat slowly opens. |
Re: Water temp????
i bought a piece of pipe and put it between my head and top radiator bung. Use 2 hose clamps and tapped the pipe and put the sender in it doesn't look to pretty but works just fine.
|
Re: Water temp????
I jus hooked it to the relieve valve at the bottom middle of the radiator....works fine...after the thermo opens
My friend told jus to pull the thermostat out and have it run wide open all the time...the only prob is...is that my vtec wouldnt kick in till op. tempature unless i get a chipped ecu is this true? and would my engine run a tad cooler? |

The bottom of the radiator will not reflect the actual engine coolant temp since this will be coolant with heat already removed. Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about. Just get a lower (185 degree is good) temperature thermostat. Your engine will run inconsistently since the temperature will not be constant. |

it was indeed. |
Re: Water temp????
so my car is running hotter than 195?
Damn....this isnt good |
