Put the thermostat back in. Constant flow will not give the coolant time to disipate the heat while it's in the radiator.

How much timing were you running, Jon? Did it ever occur to you that the added mechanical clamping action helped with bore shift from detonation... meaning you were still detonating? :-X Ever free up any ring lands?

I've had good luck in the 240 whp range with stock Z6, zero head gasket problems.

Listen to Foowee about thermostats... you need dwell time for the coolant to heat up and cool down, and you need pressure, in order for a cooling system to do a good job.

good post though, ive been having the same problem and too cheap to do the headgasket route- so i parked it

JD, about ig timing, its been running perfect for months, and i havnt changed thing, power still feels the same, everything runs hard, juss the heat.. why do you think its the timing?

I already said why I think you have an ignition timing problem.

Care to share your timing map with us?

Been running 23.5 degrees of timing at 8 psi for about a year now.

Holy ----.

General rule of thumb for non D16Y is 14-16 degrees at 10 psi.

D16y5 head, that count? :D

Re: Water Pump Or Head Lift?

I destroyed a D16Y7 once, off less timing than that.

Re: Water Pump Or Head Lift?

ill check my timing, but i dont have my map saved anywhere so ill have to find someone with a chip reader. but why would it just start now if its timing and ive been running it hard for a year now? and it will still overheat withought boosting it, like driving on the freeway in 5th, but staying out of boost.
