vtec head swap????? help

have a 92 civic cx woth a stock 70 horses ive added a dc header a full apexi n1 exahust and an intake but still dont have the power i want, the motor only has 98000 miles on it so i dont want to do a motor swap but im looking into a d16y8 head swap ive heard good and bad things about them anyone know anything ...ive heard they have a tendency to overheat .... any other suggestions for noticable hp gains without a swap any info will help!!!

Re:vtec head swap????? help

i think the gain with that swap as long as its 16v.. is like 40hp or so.. but it would be well worth it.. instead of ur little ass cx intake and injectors.. youd prolly have to swap the ecu also..then you would have to hook up the vtec unless u get an ecu from a vtec and hook it up.. :) from a 92 dx vtec 1.5 would prolly work.. :) just got get the bigger intake mani too!

I would definatly go with the head and intake swap... probably get a real good gain.

Re:vtec head swap????? help

could i just use the injectors from the y8 head >>>???

would i have to swap out the pistons too because the cx is only an 8 valve ant the new head would have 16 valves i dont know much about the piston reliefs ??????

Re:vtec head swap????? help

leave the bottom end and just swap out the entire top end. get a compete Vtec top end and and bolt it on. along with a 92-95 civic ex/si ecu

Re:vtec head swap????? help

i dont know the size of the injectors of the y8, and i wouldnt advise just using the injectors. you would be much more happy power wise switching the whole head. like its said above, youll get 40 some horses. 70+40=110. youll totally feel the differnce.

Re:vtec head swap????? help

I agree, just get a y8 head and intake manifold with all the ---- on it and put it on your stock block. you could easily see a 35-45hp gain.

Your engine is a 8 valve, but... read this thread..

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...;threadid=2204

I think you will be just fine..

Get the correct ECU as well. The Z6 head/intake is also an option.

The y8/z6/a6 injectors flow at 240cc

Re:vtec head swap, help please!!!!

i went to my mechanic today and he told me that for about
$1300.00 i could have a y8 head apexi v-afc vtec ecu
and my head "CHIPPED OUT" (im not 100% sure what this means but he said it would increase my fuel curve, increase my redline and give me 15-20 extra horsepower) all installed

any other info you could give would be great

anyone heard anything about mini-me's overheating???

Re:vtec head swap????? help

Your mechanic doesnt know what he is talking about, you could easily get a gain of 40hp with a stock p28 ecu. Even more if dyno tuned with a VAFC.

look at it this way..

D16y8 & D16z6 are rated at 127hp (STOCK)

Mini-me 1.5's are normally around 120-125hp (due to the high compression)

So from your stock D15b6 that is pushing 70hp right now, its going to be a huge increase.

1300 bucks? ouch, thats a bit expenisve, you could shop around and piece this all together yourself, and install it yourself for less than 400 bucks easy.

Overeheating? Nope.. not a problem at all. Just be sure to remove the oil oriface jet on the face of the block, and use a d16z6 head gasket.
