Default Vtec engagement

Im always around B series motors. I have a D16Z6. When my vtec engages it's not noticed sounding wise...If I disconnect my Vtec I can tell a power change, but it sounds the same. Im runnin' ghetto intake, and ghetto exhaust, could that be why? I have 16x,xxx miles....could something be messed up or just worn-out internally?

D-series vtec is not as loud or noticeable as B-series vtec. With a B-series it pretty much screams but d-series is really hard to hear over all the other sounds in the engine. But if you can feel a difference when you disconnect it, then it's working.

The only time the vtec sounds good is when im haulin *** through a tunnel or a construction zone with cement slabs on both sides I just wondered if there was something I could do to really make it noticable.

Get a bigger diameter pipe for your intake, and just use a short ram not a cold air intake. That Might make the sound louder, but might not perform as good.

boost it....and you'll know when it comes on . i can hear my vtec change over on my z6. not fucken screaming but you can hear it. and i can feel it pull. but with turbo. when i punch it from like 3k in second. once i hit 5800 i can feel it pull. that was at 11 psi. at 15. u cant even tell. maybe thats why my motor went. :P. nah but you can barely hear it. and there is a big power loss if it didnt have vtec

Yeah that's pretty normal not to hear vtec on a sohc. I hear it sometimes, but like you it's when I am in a tunnel or something like that. I wish my vtec sounded cool like all you b-series guys.

I still don't want a stupid b-series though.

If you do mods to add sound to your car that reduce performance, then you're a ------- ricer.

yeah i can't hear that well unless im driving under a tunnel too. But i dont really care though. I still luv my sohc. I think though there was one time i actually did feel vtec kick in when i was driving in the winter. but it was only one time. Oh and how do you disengage the vtec again?
