You don't have to cut the wire to the light, just splice it and add another cable to go to the solenoid. The light wil still turn on and you will still power the solenoid. Use one of those T or tap connectors and go to the solenoid, as soon as the light comes on it will power your solenoid. It works, could damage your solenoid, I've been told, but will work.
