Default turbo for OBD 1 b16a2 in a 1994 civic cx??

I would like to ask any of you guys what you think would be the best set up for my combonation. I'd like to keep things as simple as possible. I would like to make 285hp eventually, but for the mean time I am just going to strap one on until I blow up my motor, and then I will build t to suit what I'm after. The best suited kit that I have seen is the "Stage 2" kit that is on Rev Hards' site. What do you think?

Ok then....give me some ideas....fuel management? What turbo should I use.... the thing that I'm really trying to figure out is weather or not to keep this car and turbo it...or to try and find a newer supra, and play around with that. What do you think would be the most dependable? And, most importantly, the most FUN to drive?

285hp to the crank is capable with your motor. The question is.. How much money do you want to spend? Can you do this stuff yourself?

I can do all of the work myself...I'm just looking for some ideas on how to set it up. Just so you know, I did put this motor in myself and I have built a couple of other motors. They were both 302 ford motors, but motors still. Along the line of money, I'm willing to put no more than 5g's towards this project. Most of what I'm worried about is dependability.(daily driver) I would also like to set up for High and low boost levels that can be changed on the fly. I've looked at quite a few setups...Greddy (nothing for OBD1)...F-max...Rev Hard. But now I'm starting to realize that none of these kits would be very dependable without alot of other equipment as well. So I'm just going to do it one part at a time.

The best thing you can buy for you kit, will be the Hondata. It will allow you to tune your car like a perfectly running FI factory car. It will also allow you to run more boost safely. It is on the expensive side, but it is worth every penny.

Once you have a good engine managment setup, you can peice together your kit. The basics.

Manifold
Turbo
Downpipe
intercooler
Wastegate
coolant/oil lines
charge pipes

You can get some pretty nice manifolds on honda-tech or ebay. for decent prices,

Turbo, Cheapturbo.com has great prices on Hybrid T3/T4 turbos, that will produce more power than your stock engine is even capable of.

Downpipe, You will need to go to a custom shop, or if you can weld yourself its pretty easy to make.

Intercooler, God.. the most overpriced peice of ---- about a kit, Everyone has overpriced intercoolers, spearco especially. Even the starion coolers are overpriced on ebay. I have a friend who makes some pretty nice custom coolers for decent prices.. let me know if you are interested. roughly 250 bucks.

Wastegate, Go with the Tial 35mm gate, you simply cant beat it.. excellent construction, and a great valve (cheapturbo.com)

Coolant oil lines, Summit/Jegs anywhere that sells -an fittings and braided line.. easy stuff

Charge pipes, you can use just about anything you want, their is a good thread about this in the FI forum.

You can probably get away with spending less than 2500 bucks on your kit including the 1250 Hondata ecu.

If you have any other questions let us know.

Thank you thank you for the help. I have never heard of cheapturbo.com so I will check it out. The only thing that I'm a little weak on is the computer tuning and stuff. All of the other things I've built have been NA so I'm not sure how to set things up. Does the Hondata kit come with presets to at least start out with. Another thing that I'm not sure about is emmisions. I live on colorado and our emmision SUCK! We are second only to california. Will I still be able to sneak by if I turn the boost off. You know, the hole check engine light crap.

I just went to see the hondata website and all it did was confuse the hell out of me. Are there any other systems that you know of that work for what I want? Oh, yeah, another thing. Do I need to stengthen the bottom of my motor to handle 285hp. Or do you think I can get away with stock internals? Or will the computer tuning that is done have more to do with it than anything else? From what I have read on this site, and on some others. It seems like the tuning is more important than any other thing. Espessially when it comes to durability. By the way...What do you think of Z-dynes' setup? It seems to make alot of sence to me...

Very true, tuning is by far the most important part on turbo setups. You pretty much only have 2 options for standalone fuel managment (plug and play) AEM EMS (Jhill has this on his crx) and the Hondata system.. s200 model? well it use to be called the 4b system. The AEM is a bit harder to use, and they both cost around the same price.

Lots of people on honda-tech speak highly of hondata. I have the program and have checked it out, it is a very nice setup. It gives you preloaded setups to choose from.

285hp on stock internals.. yes its possible, But you are pushing the limits of the stock rods. Even the weak cast pistons may have problems. It's worth a shot!
