ok so the third gear syncro is on the mainshaft.. Alright well here is another pic i have where you can see the mainshaft easier.

So where on the mainshaft is it? Sorry about all the questions. I want to get this right before i order the parts.

 

lowest brass ring on the left shaft, hidden in the pic by the 3-4 slider

 

on the left the 2nd slider down is 3/4
this is the syncro sleeve looks like


and when your tranny grinds this is what happens to the sleeve

note that the teeth inside are ground down.

that engine and tranny combo came from the 3rd gen accord rigt? i was think about swapping that into my 88 hatch, but decided not to because of "part availability" and go turbo ls vtec instead. if im not mistaken the transmission from the 86-89 accord and 86-87 prelude transmission will bolt directly to that block. i have rebuilt countles (5) 3gen accord trannies. i kept poping 3rd and 4 and 5th gears in tem. "damn high comp A20a3 motor" but it is just like everyone said.

you are on the right track.

oh some advise: when you go to re-tq the shafts. tq them only to where the original bends in the nuts line up. if you go past that you will decrese your clearance in the transmission, and seize the gears together, "i have done this on my first rebuild"

unless you go and clearance everything with the shafts tq to spec, thats my 2$
