Default Tire Tech

I can't believe I don't know this already, but how do you read tire sizes? I know some of them, but some others don't make sense and I'm trying to size a set of drag radials for rims I just got.

My original tires were P185/65R14

My current tires are P205/50ZR15

I just picked up 2 rims that measure 15.5" diameter at the lip (although I'm told they're 14" rims?) by 7" wide and I'm trying to figure out HOW to pick a good drag radial to fit.

Any ideas?

I won a $150 gift certificate to Jegs, so I kind of wanted to have my ---- straight in my head before I went in. I hate going there not knowing what I want because it's always full of muscle car guys.

dude!! WTF R14!? thought you had 15" rims?

205-40R16

205 = width of tread in MM
40 = sidewall in % of the tread width
16 = rim size in inches.

Honda civic (88-91) OEM tire size = 185-60R14

for a 15" rim you want 195-50R15 or 205-50R15
for 16" 205-40R16

those sizes will keep the rolling diameter as close as possible to the oem size (to keep the speedo as accurate as possible)

The car came with 14's. I'm running 15's now and these are going on a pair of 14s I picked up a few weeks ago. Designated track only front tires. Just wanted to make sure they would fit.

incorrect

205 = greatest width of the tire including sidewall
