Default timing problem, d16z6

first off... d16z6 with 5spd tranny, 94 sedan, originally auto, using auto p06
the only way my car will run is if i turn my distributor counter-clockwise just until none of the bolts line up, and then it runs fine until i rev it up, then the idle goes up and down.

i tried setting my cam to TDC and working from there but nothing changes. does my problem lie in the ECU?

my dizzy firing order is as follows

3
14
2

please help.

Sounds like the plug wires are not correct. The firing order for honda 4 bangers is 1 3 4 2.

Did you check the timing with a timing light?? I wasn't off by that much but my car bogged like a bitch.

you really need to run the correct ecu before trying to diagnose a problem. im sure there are codes and stuff that you didnt talk about in your explanation of the problem, if thats what you wanna call it an explanation.

That code will not make the engine run any different.

Yes, but it would idle and part throttle cruise correctly.

EH, I'm with you on running the correct ECU, but I was on my phone and it was the most expedient thing to answer with. I don't exactly relish waxing poetic via numeric keypad.
