Default Timing issues

After doing the DPFI to MPFI the car runs but i can't get the timing to match up. With the dizzy at full retard it comes close but it needs to come forward about another 5 to 10 degrees. I swapped out my dizzy with one from advance and it gives me a ign output error, put the old one back in and it works. I'm totaly lost and really need some help, any ideas?

just a shot but can you be off by 1 tooth on your gear. 1 tooth over is 9.x +/-. just my 2 cents

that is a good point, but it ran fine before? I dont have an adjustable timing light just a regular powered inductive.

I've got the distro for the MPFI, I've even swapped ecu's thinking the PM6 that came with my swap was bad, but it does the same thing with a PM8.

I just think its odd that with the used dizzy i get no codes, with the new one, i get a code? I've heard tell of honda switching some wires in the ecu's between the different years even in the same seires of cars. Is there any truth to this? My car is a 91 and the PM6 is from an 88, the PM8 i have is from an 91.

you mean it ran fine before when it was dpfi. But when you switched to mpfi you could have gotten the timing belt that goes on the cam off by a tooth. Remember, the cam turns the dizzy.

I have also heard, depending on what head u added, that the head surface to cam sprocket height is different hence changing timing. Measure the lengths of the cam sprocket centre to head surface on both and note differences.

also when u got the dizzy from advance which one did u ask for, year/model? and the current one on the car is from an 88 si right?

i didn't change the head or mess with the timing belt. i just bolted the MPFI manifold to the block and added some wires. the dissy is for the PM8 that i have, they are from the same car, i dont get to keep the PM8 though, just the dizzy. My swap came with a PM6, do i need to get a dizzy for a 88 si? Can i not just swap some pin locations? The one i got from advance is for a 91 si.

do this use the dizzy, and ecu from a 88-91 civic/crx si they all should be the same.make shure u are using a resistor box and non obd injectors.double check wiring. try swaping ignitors if u are getting a code 15 it could be a fualty ignitor and did u run shielde wire from the pins on the dizzy to the ecu?
