surging idle (SOLVED, answer at bottom)
Bone Stock d16z6 with a cold air intake, and APEX'i V-AFC Installed
original motor in the stock car it came in, 150K on it, doesnt burn oil, doesnt leak anything, good strong engine. problem. Idle surges from 1000-1500. The surge is very systematic, its always at the same tempo and goes to the same rpm range. what kinda ---- can cause this? IACV has been replaced, cant see any vacuum leaks, its not like theres tons of vacuum lines on a 95 SI. ideas? |

check the plugs. make sure the plugs are hook up to the right sensor. I had the exact same problem you had. Didnt throw any CEL but i soon realize that i hook the plugs wrong.

nope, not it. all the factory harness clips and everything are so intact that none of the plugs will reach the wrong sensor. i did however unplug the IACV and the idle smoothed out....but it idled at like 2000rpm. could it be the IACV was replaced with another bad one? |

Thats what you get for having a NA d16z6 ;) It still might be the IACV? Also Make sure you dont have any bubbles in the coolant

hey steve, send me an IACV, i know you have one. If I do turbo this car, I want B-series first and I have to retain AC, I don't want to cut this car up like crazy |

Idle Screw!!! I have had this problem 3 times before and it was one of 2 things
1st time: Intake Gasket was shot=a vacuum leak 2nd time: Fixed itself???????? 3rd time: For my car a 2 others Idle screw backs out from the vibration, raising the idle. ECU sees the high idle and tries to achieve it's "Ideal" idle, over compensates, shots it back up, tries to fix it aaannndddd it's a viscous cycle!!!! I just use a dab of gasket sealant on my screw to glue it there and call it a day. |

i wasnt reading earlier. But you installed a APEXI VAFC? What are your settings. I had that problem with the RPM. I think you might set the VAFC a bit rich. Try lowering the setting. And did you get a resistor box or resistor for those low impendence injectors?
Was the idle ok before you installed the VAFC? |
