Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

OKay, as per my standard noob ways I have another dumb question:

I have a 1990 CRX Si with a 2.25" exhuast pipe, I also a 2.25 inch tanabe muffler. I want to connect them and mount the muffler (pipe is already on). I do not however have the hardware or springs or whatever and no auto store I have called here does either. Any suggestions on what to get? Thanks!

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

(this should go in tech)
where does your exhaust piping end?
does the muffler have a 2-bolt flange or just the 2.5" opening?
pics would really be helpful.

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

It ends near the back wheel well, it has the two bolt flange and the opening. I can post pics tomorrow morning. Thanks.

Get two bolts, and two nuts, and a gasket. use a wrench and tighten it...

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

is that tanabe an axle back from the same type of car? if it is, it should bolt straight up, and connect the exhuast hangers to the rubber mounts under there....if its not, then you will have to start wlding or buy some exhaust strap and use that with some bolts to the bottom of your trunk or bumper

I think you may be right after I looked at it closer. Maybe I will try to trade the muffler for a better one to put on my crx.

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

that exhaust was designed for a 92+ civic/integra style. The crx needs a huge fart cannon chamber that sits horizontal under the trunk, and the tip exits on the left side (since thats where the cutout on the bumper is it)

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

The down pipe on my crx comes to the right side of the bumper, so I guess that means I just need to get an oem muffler until I can afford a better catback upgrade or something...?

Magnaflow 2.5" In and Out center center mufflers 40 bucks at your friendly local auto store, do it ------. and learn to weld while you're doing it cause it is a great skill to have

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

if you don't have the spring bolts or a flex pipe you'll crack your manifold, just a little fyi

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

They make EF exhaust that come out on the wrong side i hate them too because they look stupid...I'd suggest saving up and getting a Thermal R&D, I believe it is the best exhaust made for the CRX, I think mine is awesome and it sounds great too, almost stock sounding at idle and lower rpms...but when you romp on it WOT and higher rpms it opens up and sounds great...

Also napa sells spring bolts for exhausts...

That was very helpful, thanks. ;D

What do you guys think of the double axle exhausts? I like the look of them but unsure of their functionality.

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

Duals on a CRX is retarded, another alternative to flex pipes or spring bolts is solid motor mounts. I broke the welds on my ebay header without a flex pipe

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

Gotcha, though I may use them anyway if my friend gives me the one he has. This is what I need to attach the pipe/muffler right?

Plus this:

And of course some hangers and or welding...

Re: Stupid CRX Exhaust Question

That should do it, there is a hanger over the control arm. I don't know if it is connected to your 2.25" piping that is already there or if you will need to add one to either it or the piping directly off the muffler.
