Squishy brakes after installing pads+rotors
I put new pads and rotors in, and now my brake pedal is mushy like there's air in the line. I didn't open the brake lines at all, so I don't he how air could be in the line. I drove about 30 miles after they were installed hoping they might firm up but they haven't. Has this happened to anybody before? I have no idea why it's doing this.

Bleed them.

Why would I have to bleed them? I might try it but it just doesn't make sense.

Re: Squishy brakes after installing pads+rotors
I usually just jam on the pedal while going down the street and do a nice brake check. If you don't stop them you know somethings not right.

Did that, I stop but not as quick as I used to and the pedal goes down further.

Zip ties.

It's not the brake hose that's the problem.

Re: Squishy brakes after installing pads+rotors
Do all the caliper pins move freely? Not binding or sticking? Are all 4 rotors new?

Re: Squishy brakes after installing pads+rotors
Both front rotors are new. I guess I will double check the caliper pins, but if they were sticking that wouldn't cause a mushy pedal?

Did you put new pads on the rear? Were the rear rotors machined? Are they cupped? Or heavily rusted? |
