SAFC question

Assume that the SAFC is wired up correctly, yet still acts like it has no power and won't turn on. What could cause this? Is there an internal component in these that frequently goes bad/fries. Have taken it apart, nothing is obviously burned on the circuitboard. Any ideas/suggestions?

Both power and both grounds hooked up?

Old blue screen unit? The display/screen died like clockwork.

The diagram calls for one power (red) and two grounds (black and brown). It says the grounds should be spaced, but I'm not sure what purpose that serves.

This is the unit. Display looks white to me, is this the type that tend to burn out? Neither the power light nor the button/knob light up either.

Nope I believe he's talking about the old SAFC that has buttons, not your SAFC2 with the wheel.

I may be wrong about the 2 power wires, I haven't hooked one up in over a year. I do remember that I used the same ground for both grounds though with no problems. I used an ecu ground.

Re: SAFC question

Ya, I'm starting to think that it might have gotten shorted out (It's 2nd hand, never saw it work). Say it did get shorted and something on the board is fried, Can I solder in a replacement diode/resistor/capacitor to fix it, or is the whole thing fucked?

Re: SAFC question

I don't see why everything would fry, if you isolate the problem try just replacing that component.

upon closer inspection, this thing looks fucked up. There is this yellow discoloration all over the back of the circuitboard, and I found several pins that look like this

I'd hit those bitches quick with a soldering iron to re-melt the solder and see if it fixes any previously broken connections.

I think the silicon melted and shorted out several circuits on the board itself. There are a bunch of places that look like that pic, with leads burnt over onto circuits they aren't supposed to be touching.

Hey, who wants to buy a mint condition SAFC II with only 1 scratch, 200 dollars shipped O0

You can fix this! At least I hope you can, give it a shot.

Re: SAFC question

You really think that resoldering the pins will fix it? It seems to me like the board itself is fried.

I say try it, what do you have to lose?

time, patience, will to live...
I'll give it a shot though.
the unit was fried before I started messing with it. Probably file a claim with paypal to get the $$ back.
