my motor started with a small knocking sound today .


you only hear it wen u rev slightlty and only from 2.5k to 3.5k rpms. if you rev it hard you dont hear it and if u rev past 3.5k rpms you dont hear it. does any1 know how to tell if its the rod bearings or the main bearings?

 

what would the valves being out of spec have to do with a rod knock?

 

rod knock isnt valve related its when the rod connects to the crank and the berrings get fucked or whatever and the rad actually starts tapping the crank. usually when that happens its bad.. really bad..

 

is there any way to distinguish between the rod bearings or the main bearings by the sound?

 

chances are its your rod knocking your crank. there really isnt any way other than pull the oil pan and look.

 

when i pull the pan.. do i just shake the rods for play or sumn?? or do i have to pull the caps and inspect the bearings?
