Replaced piston rings, do I need to break it in?
 

As the title said, is it needed? If so, how many miles? Thanks

assumed you gave the cylinders a hone job as well to right? Yes when installing new rings it takes a little time to seat the rings in. No trips to redline for atleast a few hundred miles, change the oil at 500 and let her rip.

also use regular oil, not synthetic!

just be sure to give the rings pressure so they wear in properly, as in no driving like a grandma for the first miles or the rings won't seat completely before they glaze the cylinder liners.

Ya I was told you have to do a few nice hard rips through some gears after a rebuild to seat the rings

Definetely not to redline, but at least get movin quick a few times to get them to seat properly

Then drive normal (like a normal person would lol) for 250+ miles, change the oil, check the filter for shavings and if all is clean and clear ------- victory burnouts

its not that you dont wanna drive grandma ish you just dont wanto hold continues rpms such as open road driving, you wanto be up and down in rpms like city driving, just dont take the rpms past 4,000 for the first 500-1000 miles but thats all on your prefrence, in general the finer grit hone you go with the longer the rings will take to seat

bah I've used synthetic on the last 3 engines I've just built. Lots of new nissans come with synthetic right off the assembly line.

on my last build i started it let it idle, for 15 mintues so i could warm up, then went out and tuned it. the first 50 miles where hardcore rapage. i have 4k on it now and its running pretty. but its egging me for more boost so rods are the next step. and ill do the same thing again

don't warm it up untill you're ready to run it, while it's warming up... don't rev it. drive it for at least 20 miles like you would reguarly drive it (but no trips to redline).

give it gas up to 4k in 3rd and 4th then let off the gas and don't touch the clutch pedal..... this will load the cylinders and push the rings outward, know what i mean?
