I just grab some jumpers and hook up power and ground and then jump power from the blade contact to the main power terminal.Use a good size jumper cable for power the starter draws quite a bit.I would go through and double check grounds etc it is easy to miss something like the tranny ground on the front that grounds the tranny case and the starter as it is grounded by bolting it down.Be patiient I know it gets frustrating but you will get there.

I would make a decent size ground wire and run it from the tranny to the frame[sand down to metal] and you really can add as many grounds as you like it never hurts to have extra.Normally the tranny ground attaches to the bracket on the front of the transmission.Just make sure you get good clean contact metal to metal and I usually take some emery clothe or similar and sand the paint off till it is bare metal.
