Reasons for spontaneous loss of oil pressure

I had my car running well except for a oil leak in between the upper and lower front cover on my ka24de-t.

I pulled the valve cover and the front cover, re-RTV'd and then put it all back on.

at the same time I did an oil change, but in the middle of the change I got distracted and the car had only a quart of oil in it. It was lucas oil stabalizer though, so it isn't as bad as leaving just a normal quart of 10w 30 in or something.

I started the car and ran it for about 30 seconds before realizing i didn't have enough oil in.

I put in the other 3 and then started the car. Now, my oil pressure sensor only registers about 5-10 lbs at idle and im too scared to rev it up. What could have happened?

it's just a sender that T's from the stock oil pressure sender, so there's no line, it's right off the block.

well you have oil pressure at idle, so 5-10 lbs should be enough to idle for a while, so maybe let it idle and see what happens. Then slowly rev it up and see if it changes.

Did you pull both front covers or just the upper one?

Re: Reasons for spontaneous loss of oil pressure

just the upper

I'd hook a guage directly to the block to rule out a bad sending unit, but it almost sounds like you fragged your bearings....

how much did it have at idle before?

look at he valve train its the first place that gets oil i dought it holds more then a quart, look for ware or scoring any wired sounds while it idles tick things of that nature

Re: Reasons for spontaneous loss of oil pressure

I will. Even if there is scoring, what would that have to do with oil presure?

Re: Reasons for spontaneous loss of oil pressure

lack of oil pick-up from the pan meaning no circulation

Re: Reasons for spontaneous loss of oil pressure

ok, so I changed my oil again without the stabalizer this time and I found something interesting.

The stabalizer was sitting on the bottom of the pan half congealed and when I put the old filter on the ground with the holes facing up, the oil didn't go in the filter, the oil just sat there and didn't move and hasn't moved for a day.

so, is there any possibility that because I put the stabalizer in first and then ran it for a sec with just that, that it clogged my pickup? Seems pretty likely considering how thick everything is but I don't know.

very possible drop the pan and look at the pick-up just two gaskets and time is all it is
