Question about tranny bearing...
Well a few months ago my car started making this loud rattling noise in my clutch from like 1k-3k rpm...after 3k rpm it usually stops...but I usually shift at like 3k-3.5k
Anyway, it only rattles if the clutch is engaged..if Im sittin there and my foot is on the clutch it wont rattle.
I had alot of people tell me it was the throwout bearing..but I know someone that had the same problem and he had a new clutch put in...and the sound never went away.
Anyway, a mechanic told me 99% of the time its a transmission bearing...and its usually caused by shifting fast or driving my car like its a racecar..even though its not.
I was wondering if anyone knew how much this would all cost to replace the bearing...or if anyone knows the price of a 6th gen tranny (new/used..dont care)
Thanks

put the car on jack stand and run it, see if the noise is coming from the cast of the tranny, also rip open the rubebr boost on the ---- fork and listen for noise.
rmember Mechanic is always trying to rip u off
AFAIK he bearing (depends on which one verys from 20 to 50 bucks from the dealer.)
a used tranny prob.ly cost 100 bucks or so from junk yards.

So, are you guys 100% positive its my throwout bearing and not a tranny bearing? Cuz I know someone who had a clutch replaced (and the throwout bearing is generally included in a clutch kit) and his still made the noise after that...and the sound my car makes is the same as his was.
But yeah it only makes the noise when the clutch is engaged and its defnitely coming from that area...
If I am gonna get a new throwout bearing I might as well put a new clutch in right? The clutch in my car now isn't so great...it was pretty bad when I bought the car.

Also replace the pilot bearing as well. These usually come in a clutch kit. Pressure Plate/Clutch disc/Throwout bearing (aka release bearing) Pilot bearing and a clutch alignment tool.
How many miles is on this trans.. I wouldnt be suprised if its a input bearing.
