pulled head off, think itsa head gasket.
After I did a compression test of 175,175,115,105.on my h23.I had lots of smoke, and steam coming out of the valve cover,I pulled the head of my prelude, two of the spark plugs kinda had a greenish tint to them, looked at the cylinder walls, they seem to be ok, no scratchs or scars, so I fill the cylinders up with gas like abaz said, and it took like 30 min before all the gas was gone, the gas drained out in all four cylinder evenly. so I look and the head gasket, its a metal one(3 layer), didn't see any thing wrong with it, also when I was taking off the head some Of the bolts came out a lot easier than others, I was think maybe teh guy didn't torque the bolts down. I will take pics of gasket, but I don't know how to post them, so If can email them to somebody that would be cool, thanks Ray

Think about it, how else would the combustion gases get into the crankcase to come out the valve cover?
I am still going with ring lands.
When the ring lands were blown on my ZC you could hardly see the scratches in the cylinder wall and I also drove the car around for a while with them bad. I'll try to take a pic to show you.

Re:pulled head off, think itsa head gasket.
I'm thinking he didn't torque them down, because I took the head bolts out with a impact gun, and some of the bolts came out with the gum on lowest setting, and some of the other bolts I had put it on highest setting and I had to hang on it a little for them to break loose. should I buy new head bolts, or can I use the old ones? is there any thing that I should do before putting the head back on? THanks civicvtecb16a for posting my pics
