Default Piston recommendations.

OK so next winter we will be doing an A6/Z6 mini-me in the CRX and building the internals. We are going with the tuner toys D16 rods. And some 9:1 pistons. I'm leaning towards SRP pistons due to the price of them. My questions are: How much HP can the SRP's take? Do I want the A6 9:1 pistons or the Z6 9:1 pistons? Is there any difference between the two? Are there any other brands that you would recommend besides SRP? Why? Any other random relevant info is appreciated.

-Thanks

Edit: I had a retard moment.

almost positive tpistons are interchangable as long as the bore is correct and piston height. i would recommend wiseco, just because everytime i have rebuilt a motor, dirtbikes to small blocks, ive always used them

Pistons are interchangeable but the compression will change. You will want to use the piston that matches the head. A6 pistons with a Z6 head = approximately 10:1. Z6 pistons with a Z6 head = approximately 9:1.

If your on a budget get the srp's, your not going to find a better deal. If you have a few hundred extra to spend go with something like wiseco or CP. Whichever you go with get oversized so a machine shop can get the proper piston to wall clearance.

Unless JE's gone out and changed the design on the SRPs, then I'm going to stand by what I figured out about them back in '97... OEM castings are superior to SRPs for boosted applications.

I think most of the complaint about Vitaras is people dropping STD size Vitaras into a stock bore, and getting excessive piston-wall clearance. That sets you up for detonation, dropped CR or no, forged or no, and no piston will withstand deliberate abuse like that.

not to thread jack but what is the most whp one could run on just adding pistons and rods to a motor without re-sleeving.
