Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
I have a 93 civic si with stock everything. I recently changed the radiator to fluidyne radiator. I already had an overheating issue before i changed it to fluidyne. I would check the radiator every so often and found that it always empty or have a little bit of fluid left.
The overfull reservior would often be empty. I already changed the themostat with new gasket. I check all the pipes and made sure that there was no cracks or leaks. I even started the car for 30 mins to see if it may be leaking from anywhere. No signs that i can see with the eye. The fan turns on when it gets a bit hot. I bled the system to make sure there was no trapped air in there. The only reason why i think the car would overheats is when there is insufficient coolant/water in it. Other than that the car would not overheat. I'm totally confused and not sure what the problem may be. I think there could be a possible chance that there may be a leak coming from the water pump. (Not sure yet, just a thought) |
Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
so there are NO external coolant leaks (like around the water pump?).
if not, you need a new head gasket. is there any white smoke from the exhaust pipe? |
Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
no white smoke. theres no water in the oil or vice versa. no bubbles coming out of the radiator

Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
well the coolant has got to be goin sumwhere...try a cyclinger leak down test maybe the headgasket is going bad...or maybe its a leak that u cannot see...so if the clt turns out good try putting sum dye into ur coolant and use a UV light if u have access to them...sum times the most minor leaks can cause the most trouble

Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
could it also be the water pump leaking?
|
Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
definitly could

Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
check for a malfunctioning water pump. Make sure the coolant is flowing...not sitting still being pushed by a broken fan. You can also check the weeping hole to see if it leaks. Which is under the TB cover. GL with the fix.

Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
how do you check to see if its really leaking from the TB = timing belt area? Cuz i think i have the same symptoms of water leaking but cant really locate where the leak is coming from.

Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
loop it
|
Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
look underneath the car and if you see a water leak below the timing belt area its a water pump, that would be my guess
|
Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
explain more on this heater core thing? what can this tell us by doing it. and is that hose that he should loop, obvious? im curious as well man

Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
modern heater cores do not leak into the car, you'll see it dripping near the firewall (or pouring) if its the problem.
these are the hoses people are saying to loop together (labelled Heater Hoses). The both plug into the firewall below the fuel filter. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...ZkMzF5NTQx.jpg |

well ill be dipped! thats ------- sweet! i will give er a try

Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
I think it is the water pump, mine wouldn't ever leak sitting in the driveway, but once you were driving it would build up more pressure and spew right out. it took me a while to figure it out but I bet that's it. the heater core would be obvious. :y

Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
if its leaking from the heater core would the water be visible inside the car or would be visible outside the car? This problem is driving me nuts.

Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
sound like bad water pump.. check if you havent air in the coolant system..
|
Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
is it normal for the water to splash out with the radiator cap off when starting the car? ???
|
Re: Overheating Issue due to a water leak?
Yes sir, start the car with the rad cap on then pop it off lol
