ok got my y7 coming...more help needed

ok...the y7 is coming and had some questions
internally are they the same...for turbo-ing again?
and are the bearings any different that the weak one in the y8's?
anyone running boosted Y7s with good experience?
thanks

Who said the y8 has weak bearings? the y7 and y8 bottoms are nearly identicle.

The major problem with y8's are the shitty ass oil pumps that fail and destroy the bottom ends. In fact I think all obd2 d-series pumps are crap.

I have worked on 2 y7's with both around 100k that had killed bearings. I would like to find out what difference there is in the 88-95 pumps vs the 96+

It's because they put that homo crank position sensor down on the oil pump, it fucked everything up...

lol, thats the only difference externally, I havent looked inside both to compare yet.

isn't the y7/y8 bottom ends pretty damn close to the z6 (minus that obd2 bullshit of course)?

next questions.. the unreliability factor that the d16y motors are experiencing; is that what's driving the price down? I mean the dude did get a pretty square deal.

Would it be possible to dump the knock sensor and install a z6 oil pump (running OBD1 of course) and then have a more reliable motor?

yup youll just have to run OBD 1 or 0 and change the oil pan.

so d16yX series engine, z6 oil pump w/ z6 pan and thats it?

obviously obd1 due to the Crank fluctuation sensor.
